A tentative agreement has been reached in the 4-day strike that threatened to disrupt grain shipments across the country.

The walkout on Canada’s west coast is the latest in a string of labor actions to hit the country’s supply chains.

Grain workers at Canada’s biggest port went on strike Tuesday over a dispute regarding hours and pay, setting up what an industry association called a “devastating” situation for farmers during the harvest season.

OTTAWA (Reuters) -Workers at the six main grain terminals located in the Canadian port of Vancouver went on strike on Tuesday, a move that could disrupt exports of canola and other crops, government and industry officials said.

Some 600 unionized grain terminal workers are behind picket lines at ports in Vancouver and Prince Rupert. That work stoppage is expected to have an impact of more than $30 million per day. Aaron McArthur reports.
