Schools in Chennai will remain closed today, November 12, due to the heavy rain forecast, news agency ANI reported. “In light of the heavy rain forecast, a holiday has been declared for all schools in Chennai today,” ANI quoted District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade as saying.

Initially, Chennai officials indicated that schools would operate as usual; however, the decision was reversed within 30 minutes due to the intensity of the rainfall and the forecast for showers.

Heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for several Tamil Nadu districts, including Chennai and Puducherry. Moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected today, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 33°C.
