The Flyers had an excellent response to a scary hit on Ryan Poehling as they took over to beat the Islanders, 5-3, Thursday night at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Poehling was forced out of the game in the first period after taking a check to the area of his shoulder and head.
Islanders rookie Maxim Tsyplakov had a target on his back after delivering a hard shoulder check on Poehling, who left the game.
Sean Couturier had a goal and an assist, Travis Konecny added three assists and the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New York Islanders 5-3 on Thursday night. Morgan Frost, Garnet Hathaway, Cam York and Noah Cates also scored for Philadelphia. Samuel Ersson made 26 saves as the Flyers won for the third time in four games.

Today marks the 19th Hockey Day Minnesota (HDM). The Wild play the last game of the day. There were four total games today. Two boys High School games at Valley Fair and a Division 1 Girls hockey game between the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Bemidji State Beavers.
The Flyers open up a home-and-home against the New Jersey Devils on Monday night at Wells Fargo Center at 7 p.m.
