Google Maps now supports the Now Bar feature on One UI 7, providing live navigation updates on the lock screen for a seamless experience.
Users chimed into Vats' thread on X, stating the update has appeared on a Galaxy S23, meaning it will likely see Maps on the Now Bar once the update drops. Elsewhere, one user with a Galaxy S24 claims the update has been installed, but Maps is not functioning on the lock screen.
President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum says her country is reaching out to Google about its Maps change and is suggesting additional revisions of its own.
The change will only be visible to U.S. users. Those in Mexico will still see “Gulf of Mexico,” while those in the rest of the world will see both names on the map.
The company said it would stick to its “longstanding practice” of showing the local official name for a geographical areas when when "official names vary between countries."
Google said the name changes, which also includes using Mount McKinley, will happen when Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is updated.
