Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in near-daily border fire since October 2023, when Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel’s northern region, in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks. The cross-border fire has displaced tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border.

Israel's military said on Tuesday it struck dozens of Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon overnight, a day after it launched a wave of airstrikes against the Iran-backed group's sites in Lebanon's deadliest day in decades.

In a video released Monday, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned people in Lebanon that Hezbollah – which is considered a terrorist organization in several nations, including the United States - was endangering them and they should leave areas close to the border in the country's south and east.
