Testimony resumed on the second day of the Tyre Nichols state criminal trial on April 29. Mills was the first witness to take the stand Tuesday.

The prosecution called Desmond Mills to the stand. The former officer pleaded guilty to both federal and state charges.

Nichols’ mother RowVaughn Wells took the stand shortly after 3:15 p.m., questioned by Assistant District Attorney Melanie Headley. Nichols’ mother began her statement by telling a story about the last time she saw him. She was about to start cooking dinner, she said.
