A suspect has been extradited from El Salvador to face trial for a 1991 San Diego murder after DNA advancements linked him to the crime.

A man was extradited from El Salvador this week and arraigned in connection with a 1991 cold case, according to the office of San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan.

The case remained unsolved for nearly three decades until an additional investigation that included DNA testing was conducted in 2019, the DA’s office said.

The death of the 25-year-old man, whose body was discovered behind the Food 4 Less on Hazard Center Drive, is being considered suspicious.
