TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A herd of goats is working its way through the Steiner Ranch area to reduce wildfire risks. Lake Travis Fire Rescue is using goats to eat overgrown vegetation in the Steiner Ranch area. In turn, the grazing will reduce the plants that can fuel wildfires.

AUSTIN, Texas — A herd of hardworking goats are headed to Steiner Ranch to help reduce wildfire risk. Steiner Ranch's HOA and Lake Travis Fire and Rescue hired the goats to graze 24/7, now through Friday. Goats will eat grass, plants and shrubs in the greenbelt along the Chaparral Hiking Trail.

In an innovative partnership, the Steiner Ranch Residential Owners Association (SRROA) and Lake Travis Fire Rescue (LTFR) are working with Rent-A-Ruminant Texas to address wildfire risks using an eco-friendly and effective solution: goats.
