Shami first cleaned up MP captain Shubham Sharma for eight before returning to wipe off the tail, finishing with figures of 4/54 as Bengal gained the first-innings lead over Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy match in Indore on Thursday.

Shami started with the wicket of Madhya Pradesh captain Shubham, castling the right-handed batter for eight runs on the second day.

Mohammed Shami has not been named in India's squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. However, if the selectors and the team management feel that he is fully fit then they might fly him to Australia during the series.

Mohammed Shami returned to competitive cricket after 360 days following an ankle injury, representing Bengal in the Ranji Trophy against Madhya Pradesh. Despite a modest first-day performance, Shami bowled ten overs without taking a wicket.

The 34-year-old Shami is also playing his first Ranji Trophy match for Bengal since November 2018, when he featured in a one-off game against Kerala before embarking on a Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour to Australia then.
